Opening Sequence Analysis - By Louis Liburd

In the opening sequence of Dolce Vita, the audience feels a sense of uncertainty and new discover because of the slow establishing shot of the helicopter holding an unclear object. This alongside the historic scenery behind it shows the audience what Rome is like.  The Low angle shot of the Helicopter carrying the statue connote that the statue is of importance.  As we a are forced to look up instead of look down on it.   Secondly In the opening scene, the audience feels a sense of excitement and youth because of the long shot of the children running after the helicopter.  However this also shows how society no longer values the statue of Jesus.

In the middle of the opening sequence of Dolce Vita, the audience feels intrigued by how the women on the balcony will react to the statue of Jesus being carried towards them.  The low mid shot of the women fascinated by the statue of Jesus is symbolic as they are all wearing bikinis for the male gaze.  Which in fact is going against the bibles teachings as it promotes sexual sin. The second image shows the girls asking where the statue is being taken.  However the men only know where they are taking, not why.  This links to the first paragraph stating how the world needs Jesus more than ever.
In the final of the opening sequence of Dolce Vita, the audience feels a sense of realism of women through the close up of their faces as they reject the men in the helicopter.  Although they are rejected you still feel a sense of youth and happiness as the women and men are still smiling and have fun.
